We started our homeschool this week! Although we had some field trip time in this summer during our trip to Yellowstone and South Dakota, Tuesday marked our first day of “school.”
Let me back up a moment. My last year has been full of changes. I left full-time employment and am running my marketing agency, Little Birdie Communications. The hubby and I also decided to withdraw our son from the private school he was attending and start homeschooling him. So… yeah, a lot of changes. There are many reasons why, which I won’t get into in this post. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming…
My daughter Sass will start school on August 31 (she is staying at her private school) and I was planning to start classroom instruction then, but Buddy asked to start this week. And, hey, if he wants to start, we’re going to start!
The negatives were that I did not have my room ready. It’s still not ready, but I pulled a late night on Monday and got it usable. I’m also not finished organizing my curriculum, but that will come as the year goes on. There are two pieces of furniture that need to find new homes (an old-school school desk and a Lego table), and once they do I’ll be able to finish the room.
I’m excited to get started, and for these two weeks Sass is joining us as well. Of course, that brings it’s own challenges, but it’s fun to work with both of them.
So far there have been twists and turns as I’ve been exploring our curriculum options. In true form, I refuse to follow anything completely and am doing my “own thing.” Well, sort of. There are so many options out there it can be really overwhelming! But three days in and I love it!
